SmartKey® are basically residential versions of automotive side bar locks. In order to reset a SmartKey® lock you have to be able to get the plug to rotate to the 3:00 o’clock position within the shell to slide the Combinating Slider back. Getting the tumblers to align properly to rotate the plug is where the My Smart Lock Reset Tool comes into play.
